You and your car buddies are eager to test the modifications you’ve just completed on your hot rod. It just so happens that the local airport has an auxiliary runway that gets little use, and for a small rental fee, management is willing to rent the strip out to a bunch of young guys every once in a while. On a warm and sunny summer afternoon, the gathering of enthusiast local hot rodders builds to a fever pitch. A volunteer with a rag becomes the official starter for the day. He carefully stages both cars, and when everything is set, he flips his rag high into the air, sending both cars speeding off down the straightaway.
For decades, such a scenario has been presented in just about every corner of the globe. The beginnings of early drag racing hasn’t changed, and the sport remains as one of the endearing spectacles in motorsport history.
